CRCA’s History

CRCA Beginnings

Dear Friends and Future Families,

Our journey to founding Capital Region Christian Academy has been shaped by both experience and calling. As a family, Nate and I (Laura) have had the privilege of being part of two previous University-Model® school communities, with CRCA now becoming our third. These experiences have deeply shaped our expectations of education, discipleship, and the powerful partnership between school and home.

Before stepping into the University-Model setting, I began my career in public education. Those early years gave me a deep appreciation for educators and the work being done in schools, but they also stirred a desire to see an approach that more intentionally integrates faith, family, and academic excellence.

Through our time in the University-Model, we witnessed something truly unique: a model that not only equips students academically but also strengthens families and nurtures a student’s identity in Christ. It became clear to us that this was not just an educational structure—it was a transformative approach to learning and discipleship.

When we moved to New York, we were surprised to discover that there were no University-Model schools in the state. What initially felt like a void soon became a calling. Through prayer and discernment, we felt the Lord leading us to step forward in faith and help bring this model to our community.

We trust fully in God’s sovereignty and His faithfulness to guide and shape the lives of our children, no matter the educational path a family chooses. Whether public, private, Christian, home, or a University-Model approach—each option carries its own strengths and challenges. We recognize that this model will not be the right fit for every family, but we believe it provides a meaningful option for those seeking a Christ-centered, family-integrated approach to education.

Capital Region Christian Academy was born out of this calling—a desire to create a place where students are known, challenged, and discipled, and where parents are active partners in their child’s education.

It is a privilege to help bring this opportunity to our community, and we are filled with anticipation about how God will use CRCA in the lives of those He draws together here. We invite you to pray with us, walk alongside us, and consider how you might be part of this journey.

With gratitude and hope,

Nate and Laura Claggett
